60% Cariñena & 40% Garnatxa from family-owned 18Ha ‘Els Palells Estate' organic vineyards. Near the small town of Bellmunt del Priorat in the south of the DOQ and at an altitude of more than 1000m the estate vineyards are planted on the classic steep Licorella (slate) slopes (Costers) with pockets of alluvial clay over granite. With vines aged up to 80 years old and yields naturally limited to 2500kg/ha the grapes were harvested by hand in 18kg boxes in the middle of September 2016 and transferred to 10000Ltr stainless steel vats for fermentation. The Garnacha and Cariñena grapes were fermented separately for approximately 18 days and after a malolactic fermentation using indigenous bacteria the wines were then aged separately in 300Ltr French oak barrels for 12 months. The 2016 vintage was characterised by a dry winter followed by a relatively wet spring (where we received most of the regions annual rainfall) and a dry summer without the typical extremes of temperature which are common in Priorat. This meant that the vines were in excellent health so 2016 is a year of minimal intervention excellent quality maturity and balance between alcohol acidity and aromatic concentrations. The total production of 50000 x 75cl was blended in May and bottled at the end July 2018; Wm Judit Llop

Tasting Notes

Deep cherry red with very intense and aromatic ripe black fruits (sloes blackberries) with a touch of liquorice and complex toasty/spicy notes on the nose.

Local Delivery Returns

All local deliveries must be inspected upon receipt from the delivery driver. If the order is unacceptable, it must be returned to the delivery driver who will then inform the store to issue a refund.
