Ashley and Karina Thompson, franchisees of the Ferrybank Carry Out Off Licence have won the overall ‘Store of the Year’ within the Carry Out Off Licence chain nationwide. They beat stiff competition from over 60 stores to claim the title and a trip to South Africa to visit the wine regions of Stellenbosch. The awards were held in a glittering ceremony at The Mount Wolseley Hotel, Tullow, Co.Carlow with MC Marty Whelan greeting the crowds. Five regional winners were announced which included Carry Out Carrigaline, Co.Cork; Carry Out Ferrybank, Co. Waterford; Carry Out Tralee Rd, Killarney, Co. Kerry; Carry Out Mulhuddart, Dublin and Carry Out Tullamore before the unveiling of Carry Out Ferrybank as overall winner. Tom Desmond, MD of the GWL Group said: This was a fantastic achievement. All our stores work hard to give our customers superb choice and value and Ashley, Karina and their team are an inspirational success for us all.” Carry Out Off Licence Ferrybank won the overall Store of the Year award due to their high standard of excellence across all of the judges criteria. Four areas were examined which included Strategic Management, People Management, Operational Management and Customer Focus. A bonus ten percent of judging was based on a special area called ‘Living the Brand’ which took, local initiatives, customer service initiatives and promotional initiatives into consideration. Ashley and Karina Thompson are a husband and wife team who opened Carry Out Ferrybank in 2003. It is a family run business in the centre of the Ferrybank area. The Carry Out Off-Licence franchise was launched by the GWL group (Galvins Wholesale Ltd) in 2003. Three years later, it represents the largest off license operation in Ireland with over 60 owned or franchised stores nationwide offering consumers a consistently high quality range of wines and spirits. Carry Out off licenses are exclusively supplied by the GWL group, the largest independent importer and distributor of wines and spirits in Ireland, from a new 130,000 square foot facility in Mahon, Cork. All outlets that sell takeout alcohol should have a segregated area dedicated to its sale and display, a leading drinks company chief said today.
